Lisa-Marie Niestroj studied Biology at the University of Cologne and the Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research. She completed her M.Sc. in Genetics and Computational Biology, followed by a Ph.D. in Computational Genetics at the University of Cologne. Her doctoral work focused on rare and common variants in complex disease genetics.

She currently works as a postdoctoral researcher at the Cologne Center for Genomics (CCG), where she studies the genetic architecture of epilepsy, with a focus on copy number variants (CNVs). She also contributes as a visiting scientist at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard and is part of the Epi25 Collaborative analyst team, working on large-scale epilepsy genetics.

Her research combines genome-wide association studies, CNV analysis, and variant interpretation to improve genetic diagnosis in neurological disorders. In addition, she coordinates the CCG seminar series, which hosts monthly talks by renowned external speakers from the fields of genomics and biomedical research.
